Assistant Accountant - Burgess Hill

HPC plc is looking for a full time permanent Assistant Accountant to join its small but busy Finance team at our head office in Burgess Hill, West Sussex. Working as part of a team of four in the Finance department and reporting directly to the Financial Controller, the role covers all aspects of management accounting from journal entry, monthly reconciliations and management account preparation as well as overseeing the import/export Customs compliance and preparing for the annual audit.

The following qualifications and experience are essential:

  • Part qualified accountant preferred although relevant experience, such as a background in a wholesale environment would be considered.
  • Good working knowledge of Sage and Excel.
  • Must have VAT and import/export compliance knowledge.

The successful applicant will have the following skills:

  • Ability to manage own time and prioritise tasks.
  • Work to reporting deadlines and to improve processes, reducing current reporting timelines by the elimination of manual processes where possible.
  • Strong reconciliation skills
  • Investigative and collaborative skills; to be able to identify problems and find the root causes, to work with other departments to test and implement new processes and to prevent problems from reoccurring.
